Episode 15: Skiy
Can you bring us into your preparation process before a DJ set?
For me, preparing my DJ sets mostly depends on what set time I’m playing and what kind of venue or event I’m at. Of course my preparations are different if I’m playing an intimate club show or a large festival stage. I love to bring all my favorite tracks to the shows, and want to take people on a journey with me. It’s important for me to build peaks through flipping the intensity. And playing live gigs is all about reading the crowd. I love to see how the crowd reacts on the dancefloor, and very it’s important to me to make everyone dance and happy and feel some good vibes during my sets.
What has been your favorite event or festival you’ve played thus far and why?
I’m so thankful about my last summer tour and I really missed playing in front of big crowds in 2020. One of my highlights so far was Untold Festival in Romania. It’s an amazing festival and the crowd over there is really on fire!
If you could change one thing about the DJ or electronic music world what would it be?
Stop the hating. Every music style, every genre, every artist that is truely passionate about what he or she does deserves respect. One should always be open to new things and keep an open mind.
What inspires or influences your creative process when producing new music?
I’m always influenced and inspired by older music of lots of genres, by nature elements, and by pretty much all catchy sounds or vibes that I come across during my day. I also like to approach production from different angles frequently and change the point of view, so I stay creative. Sometimes it all starts with a kickdrum, sometimes with a chord, sometimes with the recording of some weird cool sound that caught my attention when I was traveling, and that I recorded on my phone. Creating a track is a wonderful journey, which sometimes does not necessarly end exactly where you thought it would. It’s a creative process, and I love that so much.
