EP 17 .2.jpg

Coming in with a hot 60 minutes is Detroit mix veteran DJ Cent! Bringing house, dance and some tech to get you in a dancing groove. Always great energy and certified bangers from DJ Cent. Read more about Cent’s background in the music scene below.

How did you come up with or where did you get your name DJ Cent?

It's a part of what I believe as a DJ. "If it don't make dollars it don't make Cent." Most events, the promoters/party giver are making money so I should as well!

You were known for throwing some incredible parties at the VFW hall in Detroit, which side of the business did you like being on more…promoter or DJ?

Being a promoter, it gives you the control to do what you want to do, but there is nothing like djing. It's not the easiest job as some may believe, but the reward of watching & controlling a dance floor takes it to it's own high. Sure as a promoter you love to see your room full and making that money but to have a dance floor full & vibing off what you do, taking your audience on a mystery journey their's nothing that can compare. Having people get there "Life" & release right in front of you lets you know you are doing somethings right, is just beautiful to witness.

I’ve been told you’ve even worked security from time to time… how did that come about?

I have aways been a person who kept a 9 - 5 so to speak & being surrounded by family who works in law enforcement. Working in security just happened! It has played a very key roll in my DJ world especially when I was giving parties as well as when i'm djing. It helps you know what to keep a eye out for when you are dealing with huge crowds on the dance floor and people!

How did Club Insomnia come about? How would you say working for radio is different from working parties and club gigs?

I received a call in 2008 from Mike Huckaby (R.I.P) to come down to WJLB & do a guest spot for the show. Man, I was so nervous playing that 1st night & talking on air but I made it through & received another call a couple of weeks later this time from the host Kim James to come & do another guest spot which I continue to do off & on since 2009. I then became one of the featured DJ's for the show! Some may say radio is totally different from doing a gig/party but for me there wasn't that much of a difference because I had the freedom to play & do pretty much whatever I wanted because I understood the rules of radio, i.e. meaning playing no curse words, etc! I also understood the power of radio & the opportunity to connect with a much broader audience, I truly never thought about playing for a radio station, i'm a late night party girl so Club Insomnia fit for me due to the time it came on, that was the world I had came from so being added to a great roster of guys to continue to push this music has been a honor!
