EP 64: Selena Faider

Happy November! Welcome back to wonderful! For this months feature we welcome the lovely rising star Selena Faider! Blessing us with a high energy hour of funk, dance, progressive and classic house gems you will surely enjoy this hump day musical boost. Enjoy!

1. Give us a brief intro of who you are? And where your Dj and music roots started ?

I was born and raised in Paris where my parents met in a parisian club 30 years ago at a place called 5th Avenue (the Duplex). Born in a club right?!

Musically it’s always been eclectic at home: from new jack, rock to rnb, disco, dance, house music : I couldn't take my baby bottle without Whitney Houston, my mum always told me.

Younger, I used to have a piano that worked with a battery and the first bassline I learned was Spice Girls - Wanna Be as that was in the piano’s presets.

DJing came years later, around 12, when I received my first turntables for Christmas. Everything came step by step: DJing, learning piano on my own, composing, singing…

2. What has been a highlight gig or festival thus far in your career? What makes a moment like this so memorable and special?

My top ones this year are elrow Barcelona last February, Defected Croatia 2022, Hardwick Festival and my gig in Mykonos this summer.

Every show is so different. You never know how a crowd will be, which it’s exciting to me. I love this idea to search for this emotion and manage to be connected with people, it’s unique.

3. What advice would you give to emerging female djs?

Trust your vision and don’t forget to have fun because that’s where magic starts.

4. Who would be a dream artist to work with for production collab or b2b Dj set?

So many, I could spend the days to tell you artists, producers, musicians. Rudimental, Alicia Keys, Gorgon City, Missy Elliott could be incredible.

For a b2b DJ set: Dennis Ferrer, Honey Dijon, Dan from Eats Everything, Gregor Salto that amazed me recently at ADE.
